Smoke Control Stoves

Some parts of the country are classed as ‘Smoke Control Areas’ or ‘Smoke Free Zones’ as a result of the Clean Air Acts of the 1950’s & 60’s. At one time, living in a smokeless zone would have meant having to use a gas fire, but that is changing.

When purchasing your stove please make sure that you state it is for a smokeless zone and quote any model numbers necessary. Please check the DEFRA website for current details.

There are also many other stoves that will allow you to burn approved smokeless fuels. Our HETAS approved stove fitters will be able to install these for you. To find out if you live in a ‘Smokeless Zone’ contact your local council or click here.

Look out for the ‘union_flag-100x50‘ logo which indicates British made stoves.
