The National Association of Chimney Sweeps recommends that chimneys should be swept on a yearly basis, by a NACS approved chimney sweep, who will sweep to the NACS code of practice and who will also issue you with a sweeping certificate.

A NACS qualified chimney sweep, like ourselves, will also be able to give you advice on your chimney and any cowls that may need to be fitted, etc.

When you use the follwing fuel types your chimney should be swept:-

  • smokeless fuels - yearly
  • bituminous coal - twice a year
  • seasoned wood - every 3 months, when in use
  • oil or gas - yearly

Please make sure that when burning wood, it is properly seasoned, as burning damp wood can tar up the chimney, increasing the risk of a chimney fire. See Solid Fuel Association for more detailed information.

As we have a Gas Safe Registered chimney sweep, we are able to remove and put back gas fires, if necessary, to sweep the chimney. We can also service your gas fire whilst we are there.

We can remove birds and birds nest from chimneys, but only if there are no eggs or young in them. We are not allowed to remove or destroy nests with eggs or young in them. We will come back and remove it when the birds have flown the nest! To prevent this from occurring again we can fit bird guards and cowls.

We do not remove wasp or bees nest. For a wasps nest ring your local council and for bees contact the British Beekeepers Association Swarm Helpline for your area.  Once the wasps/bees nest has been removed, we can then sweep the chimney.

The fumes given off by all fuels are potentially lethal. If you see smoke spilling out of the fireplace or appliance, see, smell or taste fumes in a room or a carbon monoxide detector alarm has been activated, you should:

Open all windows and doors to the outside air in the room where the appliance is installed

Vacate the room of all occupants, including pets

Let the fire go out; attempting to put the fire out can be dangerous

DO NOT operate any electrical appliances or switches - extinguish all naked flames

DO NOT re-light the fire or appliance until the problem has been investigated and rectified by a competent person.

To book to have your chimney swept, call the above Freephone number.
